I'm gonna be really candid for a sec. When couples ask for elopement getting ready photos, I cringe a little inside.
It's not that I think they're unimportant. I've photographed some sweet moments while couples get ready for their elopement day. They're just really boring if planned the wrong way. Think about it: how many times do you honestly think you'll be looking back at the photos of you getting your hair and makeup done or drinking a beer while waiting for the other to finish up? There's so much more you could do in that time to make your elopement day a more fulfilling experience AND have photos you'll cherish and actually want in the photo album.
What feels natural?
When planning your elopement timeline, you want to lean on what feels natural for you throughout the day. What do you do in the morning to wake up and prepare for the day? This could be reading before you get on your phone, a morning walk, or making your favorite breakfast. Whatever that is for you, incorporate that into what getting ready for your elopement looks like. Sip coffee on the porch, make breakfast together, go on a walk and watch the sun rise. This helps prepare you for the rest of your elopement day without chaos.
Elevating the experience
You don't have to totally forgo the actual "getting ready" part of the morning, but there's a way to add a lil flavor to your elopement timeline. I'm a big fan of getting ready together. This creates really sweet moments that are shared between just you two and creates a way to sort of "ease" into your elopement day.
Hot take:
Forget the full glam makeup and super fancy hairstyles! These take up so much time in your day when you could be focusing on the experiences you have lined up for your elopement. You’ll have way more fun when you do your own hair and makeup or have a close friend do it!
If you're opting to get ready separately, find something to do while waiting for the day to continue. Pack a picnic for lunch, play pool with your friends, or (a personal favorite) make a playlist and blast your favorite jams.
